Some pages didn't need to be redone (sorry), so please check the assignments page to see any changes (this really only affects Jeremy and Nicholas).

Mon., Mar. 15 through Wed., Mar. 17, 2010

I have only received pages from two of you. The rest have a zero on the assignment and will now only receive partial credit once I get your page to upload. Keep in mind that nothing will be accepted for a 3rd term grade after Wednesday, March 24, 2010. Check the list of pages that need attention. for the new assignments I added this week. Those are also due by the end of the term. Stop playing games and get busy designing pages. You can download and use this template. If you need to take pictures, make sure you have submitted a signed Digital Media Contract to borrow a camera from me or use your own. If you need to contact someone in the dept. you are responsible for, come to me for a pass. Submit your page in its own folder on a flash drive or compress the folder into a zip file and email it to rathke at teacher dot com. Your second page is due on Tuesday, March 23, 2010. [This is a graded assignment. Do NOT turn in a page that says 'Under Construction' unless you want a zero for the assignment. Your page must contain information and images.]

Mon., Mar. 1 through Thur., Mar. 11, 2010

Last week I requested that you email me what you will work on for the school web site. I received nothing which shows me that you have no initiative. Because of that result, I have decided to assign pages for you to create. Here is a list of pages that need attention. If you name is next to it, you are responsible for its creation. If you have completed your assigned page, you may request on that has not been assigned as your next page. Your first page is due on Friday, March 5, 2010. [This is a graded assignment. Do NOT turn in a page that says 'Under Construction' unless you want a zero for the assignment. Your page must contain information and images.]

Tue., Feb. 23 through Thur., Feb. 25, 2010

You were supposed to email me what you thought the school's web site needed. Now is the time for you to email me what part of that you plan on doing.

Mon., Feb. 1 through Fri., Feb. 19, 2010

Still working on a way to anonymously submit something on the "Confidential Concerns" page of the school web site so students can submit information regarding a crime or harrassment. I would like to see something workable by NEXT class period. Work together if you have to. Let's get it done.

Thursday, January 28, 2010

We have been asked to add a "Confidential Concerns" link to the school web site so students can anonymously submit information regarding a crime or harrassment. This entails designing a graphic link on the main page like a banner ad. And we need to figure out the best way to do an online form that submits without using the student's email account. Everyone will work on this. Submit your ideas and designs in class on Monday, February 1, 2010.

Fri., Jan. 22 through Tue., Jan. 26, 2010

You need to inventory www.stansburyhigh.org to see what it is, content wise not frills-wise, the site is missing. Until now, I have been the only staff member. There is no web site without content. Compare our site with other high school web sites to get ideas as well. Anything you discover, email to me at rathke at teacher dot com. This assignment is due Tuesday, January 26, 2010.

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Welcome to the first day of class. Today you will receive my disclosure, which is due back to me next time we meet or you will not have access to the computers and cameras. I will discuss what my expectations are and what the rules in my classroom will be this year. For one thing, I will discuss that you need to be both a computer geek and a journalist of sorts. While you may be able to design a web page, the content is not going to fall in your lap. You will need to attend school activities, take pictures, and write about those happenings so that you can include that information in the pages you design. Read the disclosure for other details. The last page of your disclosure is due back to me signed by you and a parent/guardian by Friday, January 22, 2010.
