May 17, 2010

Objective:
Standard 2: Students will demonstrate the ability to perform basic computer functions on a standard platform (PC and/or Mac).

Standard 6: Students will produce various forms of media.

Learning Outcomes:
Students will achieve a moderately to highly skilled status by showing proficiency in the following:

  • Create 2D graphics using a variety of formats and techniques.
  • Create, manipulate and appropriately use bitmap (raster) graphics
  • Become familiar with simple image manipulation tools.
  • Demonstrate the ability to convert a file to a format that may be more appropriate for a project.
  • Identify graphic formats (e.g., JPG, GIF, TIF, BMP, PSD, WMF, PNG, PDF, EPS, SVG, AI, etc.)

Class Procedure:
This site is for real and will be launched this summer. Take this assignment seriously! The artwork is important to brand identity. You will be designing a logo for a client.

Your client is an adventure travel business that specializes in hot air ballooning, white water rafting, and mountain biking outfitter trips in Souther Utah (Moab, Blanding-Valley of the Gods). The name of this production company is SplatRabbit Adventures and you can go to their website here. There is nothing really there for inspiration since you will be that inspiration. You have been brought in to help promote this new venture and your first task is to design a web site.

Design a logo for SplatRabbit Adventures utilizing the information above as to what or how to represent the company. Utilize any of the software you have mastered over the school year (such as Photoshop, Freehand, GIMP, Flash, etc.) to create at least 3 versions of your logo and it needs to be in at least 3 different sizes (if not in vector graphic). You must send your completed logo(s) to rathke at teacher dot com in a .zip file for credit.

Assignment Due:
There is no exception to this deadline due to the end of the year approaching. You web site is due by the end of class on Tuesday, May 25, 2010.
