Objective:
Standard 2: Plan and design a website.
Standard 3: The student will use HTML to create attractive web pages.
Standard 5: The student will create and prepare images to integrate
with web site designs. Example image software:
Fireworks, Photoshop, GIMP, Paint, etc.
Learning Outcomes:
Students will achieve a moderately to highly skilled status by showing proficiency in the following:
- Explore and understand basic good web development and
design principles, such as: color, white space, font styles,
viewing patterns, background images, balance, etc.
- Plan the layout considering consistency, readability,
proportion, navigation, etc.
- Use proper naming conventions and file structure.
Understand file types and filename extensions.
- Create paragraphs, line breaks horizontal rules, ordered and
unordered list, and tables. Emphasize proofreading, spell
checking and grammar.
- Use headings and font enhancements (bold, italics, etc.).
- Create hyperlinks and mail links.
- Modify page properties. For example: background, font (styles and colors), links. Insert images and include attributes (such as alt, vspace and
hspace, size, align, etc).
- Use colors to change backgrounds and text. Use image for backgrounds.
- Open and save an image in a web friendly format. Crop and resize various images. Optimize an image (resize and change resolution for optimal
load time). Enhance an image to improve photo quality (red eye,
autocolor, etc.).
Coursework Procedure:
You must find a sport or outdoor activity you like on the Internet and download four sample images. These images should either be in .gif or .jpg format. Neither image should be larger than 400kb each to allow for room on your .html page. You will design a page that advertises your sport or outdoor activity. You cannot use the favorite hobby or interest idea you used for the last assignment. It must include the following elements:
- It must have a title that is reflected in the title bar.
- It must contain a body tag that defines colors for text, background color, background image, link color and visited link color. Note: All colors must work together so that the page is readable.
- It must have a background image that compliments the page and is not too distracting.
- It must have four images in the page.
- It must contain a table that is essentially the basic layout of the page. (The first tag after <body> should be your first <table> tag. This will be the underlining format of the page. (You have been working with a table as an element of a page. If you look carefully at my web page, the basic layout is just one large table with the menu as a cell on the left, and the rest in a cell on the right).
- It must contain another, embedded table (a table inside the table that is your basic page format).
- It must contain formatting in the table cells (alignment tags, etc.).
- It must contain font tags
- It must contain descriptive text describing your sport or activity.
- It must contain at least three links to a site related to sport or activity
Due Date(s) and Submission Instructions:
You must complete your web page (.html) by the end of class on Wednesday, September 14, 2011.
