Contract Law Case
(Ch. 4 Presentation)
February 14, 2012
Objective:
Standard 7: Demonstrate an understanding of contract law.
Learning Outcomes:
Students will achieve a moderately to highly skilled status by showing proficiency in the following:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the nature of the contractual relationship and list the elements required to create a contract (e.g., offer, acceptance, genuine agreement, consideration, capacity and legality).
- Define consideration as it applies to contract law and list examples of valid consideration for both benefit and detriment.
- Differentiate among the ways that a contract can be disrupted, such as fraud, non- disclosure, misrepresentation, mistake, duress, and undue influence.
Coursework Procedure:
You need to understand the four elements of Contract Law. To do this, do a little research. You will need to find one example of a contract law dispute in either the news or court records to present to the class and turn in. Remember, you need to cover:
- Legality
- Capacity
- Compensation
- Acceptance/Agreement
You must be able to define the four elements above in your case as well as be able to answer the following:
- Who are the parties involved? ex: ____________ vs. ____________
- What is the case about?
- Which one (or more) of the four elements is at issue?
- What was the finding? (What was the result?)
You will need to be prepared to present your contract law case to the class for discussion. In addition, you need to turn in your example attached to a page that summarizes (answers at least the questions above) for a grade.
Due Date(s) and Submission Instructions:
Be prepared to present your case to the class and then turn in your research at the end of class on Thursday, February 16, 2012.
