2nd Video Individual Project
(Animation Option)

Objective:
Standard 2: Students will demonstrate the ability to perform basic computer functions on a standard platform (PC and/or Mac).

Standard 5: Students will participate in individual and team (group) activities.

Standard 6: Students will produce various forms of media.

Standard 8: Students will use multimedia tools and authoring skills to develop a complete and functional interactive multimedia project.

Learning Outcomes:
Students will achieve a moderately to highly skilled status by showing proficiency in the following:

  • Demonstrate oral, written, and/or technological communication skills
  • Apply management skills in personal problem solutions
  • Demonstrate the ability to work individually in the completion of multimedia projects.
    • Demonstrate personal initiative in problem solutions
    • Complete projects according to specified deadlines
  • Compare and contrast various types of file formats appropriate for the relevant computer platform.
    • Identify audio formats (e.g., WAV, MID, AU, MP3, AIF, RA, etc.)
    • Identify video formats (e.g., AVI, MOV, DV, etc.)
  • Describe the components of a basic multimedia computer system.
    • Know the current hardware specifications and capabilities of Input devices, including scanning devices, digital cameras, digital/analog video cameras, microphones, video capture cards and devices, etc.
    • Output devices, CD/DVD burners, presentation devices (i.e., LCD projectors), auxiliary storage, etc.
  • Determine when to produce original materials (graphics, audio, video, animations, etc.) and when to use copyrighted and/or royalty-free materials.
    • Obtain permission and give credit to owners before using copyrighted
      materials
  • Understand and follow fair-use guidelines and copyright laws as they apply to education and industry (see appendix for complete guidelines).
  • Import and incorporate various forms of media needed for a project.
  • Utilize “timer events”
    • Dissolves, transitions, animations, etc.
  • Create 2D animations
    • Create keyframe and path animation
    • Change position, scale, color, and properties of an animated object

Coursework Procedure:
The entire assignment will be worth 100 points. The point breakdown is as follows:

  • 30 points for your storyboard.
  • 50 points for your completed Flash animation or game.
  • 20 points for your self-evaluation.

You will create a Flash animation or game that will be shown/demonstrated in class. To do so, you will have to follow this procedure:

  1. Create and submit a "storyboard." This should show me that you have done a good deal of planning and have thought out your idea thoroughly. Create your animation or game in Macromedia (Adobe) Flash.
  2. Your animation must be a minimum of 1 minute. Must be a cohesive story (beginning, middle, and end).
  3. Your animation must have sound!
  4. When you have finished your animation project, you will need to export it as a .swf file and submit BOTH the raw Flash file (.fla) and the SWF movie to me for grading. NOTE: You may need to come in after school to get time on a computer to edit your video.

Note: I have created storyboarding blank sheets in 4:3 (television) and 16:9 (wide screen) ratios for you to use if you like.

Due Date(s) and Submission Instructions:
You must have the following completed and ready for grading:

  • Storyboard due by Wednesday, January 25, 2012 (4th Period) and Thursday, January 26, 2012 (5th Period) or before you start shooting video.
  • Completed final edit of your video, burned to DVD or otherwise ready for showing/demonstration to the class by Thursday, February 16, 2012 (4th Period) or Friday, February 17, 2012 (5th Period).
  • Evaluations (self evaluation is required if not in a group): Thursday, February 16, 2012 (4th Period) or Friday, February 17, 2012 (5th Period).
