Digital Media I
2nd Term (2011-2012 School Year) 4th & 5th Period

1st Term | Study Guide ("Digital Media" tab) | Media Release Form | Digital Media Contract

Tues., Jan. 3 through Fri., Jan. 6, 2012 (4th & 5th)

Fear and panic should be setting in as you realize you have on days left to complete the video assignment. Next week you'll take part one of the state test in this course so you won't have much editing time available. You may wish to consider coming in after school. Due to the semester ending, there will be no flexibility on due dates.

Wed., Dec. 7 through Thurs., Dec. 16, 2011 (4th & 5th)

Team page has been updated. Check it to verify your status. If there is an error, please let me know.

Mon., Dec. 5 through Tues., Dec. 6, 2011 (4th & 5th)

I have not received an email for all teams yet. The final info has been posted for the Video Project 1 group assignment. Please note the due dates on the bottom of the assignment sheet or on the calendar for this course. DUE DATES ARE IMPORTANT. As we move towards the end of the semester, there will be NO TOLERANCE FOR LATE WORK.

Thurs., Dec. 1 through Fri., Dec. 2, 2011 (4th & 5th)

The state has split the final exam for this course into two sections. One is given at the end of each semester. So when we return from Christmas break you can expect a test (yay!). One of the items on the test will be careers in multimedia. The best way to teach this is to have you research those opportunities on your own. So, while your team is working on the video project, you each need to work on the careers research assignment individually. This assignment is due on Tuesday, December 13, 2011.

Tues., Nov. 29 through Wed., Nov. 30, 2011 (4th & 5th)

Now that each of you individually have a treatment (plot summary and character description) in your hands, it is now time to create your teams. There may not be more than 3 students to a team. You may use additional Digital Media students for either class to help in your production (they will receive extra credit for helping you as you would receive extra credit for helping out other teams), but your team may not have more than 3 for grading purposes. Email your team members to me at trathke@gmail.com once you know who they will be. Then the team must meet with your treatments and discuss/decide which one to put into production. Then create a storyboard for the idea your team chooses. Your team's storyboard is due by the end of class on Thursday, December 1, 2011 (4th Period) or Friday, December 2, 2011 (5th Period).

Thurs., Nov. 17 through Wed., Nov. 23, 2011 (4th & 5th)

Time now to start your first video project. This project will be done in sections, each one graded. The first section is an individual assignment, all subsequent sections of your first video project will be as a team of 2 or 3 students. The first section/assignment is to create a treatment for your video assignment. A treatment is not a script, it is a one-page plot summary and character description. Everyone will turn one of these in. Then the teams will be decided (you can choose your teams or I will choose them for you). Then the teams will decide which treatment to put into production. You must turn in your typed treatment by the beginning of class on Monday, November 21, 2011 (4th Period) and Tuesday, November 22, 2011 (5th Period).

Thursday, November 10, 2011 (4th Period Only)

I am extending due dates in order to get better results from your projects. Therefore your first animation assignment is now due by the end of class on Thursday, November 17, 2011.

Wednesday, November 9, 2011 (5th Period Only)

You've done tweens, now it's time to create something in Flash. You know what a storyboard is and why you need to construct one. Let's put both of those new skills together to create your first animation assignment. Your animation is due by the end of class on Friday, November 18, 2011. Good luck and have fun with it!

Friday, November 4, 2011 (5th Period Only)

We have been working on creating multimedia but haven't worked at all on writing. Huh? Yes, writing. There has to be a story to what we are doing, a reason for it all. In the business world this is called context. When creating something like an animation or video, there needs to be a script. We'll be working on all of these shortly, but today I just want you to work on practicing to create a storyboard. A storyboard is a progression of pictures that define you project. As an exercise, I would like you to storyboard a day in your life. This assignment is due by the end of class on Tuesday, November 8, 2011. (NOTE: The Digital Media II students should explain this to class as instructed on their notes page. If they are not, please indicate to them that they are today's teachers).

Tues., Nov. 1 through Mon., Nov. 7, 2011 (4th Period Only)

Time to start playing around with Flash. I talked to you a bit about terminology, like where the term "tween" came from. Now I want you to play around with the program and create a shape and a motion tween for me. There is a Flash Tutorial page with some of the links not blocked by our glorious filter. You should be able to demonstrate a shape and a motion tween in Flash by the end of class on Friday, October 28, 2011 (5th Period only).
