Mon., Jan. 9 through Fri., Jan. 13, 2012
Today was supposed to be the semester test. However, due to the massive power outage in the area affecting the network, we will conduct the test on Wednesday (it's online). Additionally, I have CANCELED the Financial Simulation (Sux2BU) Reflective Essay due to this issue (I know you are all disappointed).
Thursday, January 5, 2012
Today I was planning to introduce the Financial Simulation (Sux2BU) Reflective Essay. This assignment, the last one of the course, is due on Wednesday, January 11, 2012. However, we went a little long talking about insurance. Due to the end of the semester approaching, I can't extend the due date. So, next week we'll have the state financial literacy test and the essay to contend with. And we may get to play a little more Sux2BU.
Tuesday, January 3, 2012
Apparently I gave you an extra day to turn in your Stock Tracking Assignment reflection essay and chart. So use today's class time to complete the assignment which is now due by the beginning of class on Thursday, January 5, 2012.
Tues., Dec. 13 through Thurs., Dec. 15, 2011
This week is spent reading Ch. 15, talking about Mutual Funds in class, and playing Sux2BU. Remember that this is the final week of your Stock Tracking Assignment and that you need to work on and finish your essay that goes along with that assignment. That essay is due on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 (the day we return from Winter Break).
Mon., Dec. 5 through Fri., Dec. 9, 2011
We spent the week discussing Ch. 11 - 13 about investing. The discussion included talking about Dollar Cost Averaging, Dividend Reinvestment Plans (DRIPs), stock splits and repurchases, etc. Then we broke up the class a bit to play Sux2BU. Finally, I assigned you Ch. 15 to read all about mutual funds.
Thursday, December 1, 2011
Today I assigned you to read Ch. 13 and ended the class with a round of Sux2BU.
Tuesday, November 29, 2011
I discussed Ch. 11 in class today followed by a round of Sux2BU.
Mon., Nov. 21 through Wed., Nov. 23, 2011
When you have finished reading Ch. 11, review Ch. 12 and then move on to Ch. 13. We will continue to play Sux2BU this week during part of the class period.
Tues., Nov. 15 through Thurs., Nov. 17, 2011
Today we'll continue reading Ch. 11, check our stocks and listen to a representative from SLCC in class. And, if time permits, we will start our virtual financial lives in-class exercise with the simulation that I created. In order to participate in the simulation, you will need this spreadsheet. Save it somewhere where you can access it every time we play the Sux2BU simulation.
Friday, 11/11/11
Now it's test time! Please take this test at the beginning of class. You are allowed to use your notes but you are NOT allowed to use the textbook. Once you have completed the test, please turn off your computer and read Ch. 11 (I know, but really it's a coincidence that there is a theme of 11 running today).
Mon., Nov. 7 through Wed., Nov. 9, 2011
Now that you have read Ch. 6-8, it is time for you to take your new knowledge about credit and loans our for a spin. Work on the Home and Car Loan Research assignment today. And study for the test on Friday.
Thursday, November 3, 2011
Use the class time to read Ch. 8 on the home and car buying decision. Some of this information has already been covered in class. We will have more discussions on credit and borrowing in the next couple of sessions but I really would like you to complete reading Ch. 6, 7, and 8.
Tuesday, November 1, 2011
Use the class time to read Ch. 7 on using consumer loans. Some of this information has already been covered in class. Whereas Ch. 6 dealt mostly with unsecured debt like credit cards, this chapter focuses more on secured debt. Use the Four Square Informational Reading Notetaking Method as you read and be ready for discussion next week. |
